37 Wisconsin municipalities enact local ordinances regulating wake surfing and enhanced wakes since 2009!

The past year has been a very busy time for LWA as we have assisted nearly two dozen lake groups and their municipalities, encompassing more than 180 lakes, to pass local ordinances to protect their waterways by restricting wake-enhanced boating. This brings the total number of municipalities in Wisconsin that have enacted a local ordinance regulating wake surfing and enhanced wakes to 36 since 2009. We receive multiple contacts every week seeking help with the development and implementation of local regulations. 

Towns with local ordinances are listed below. In addition to this list - the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians issued an emergency rule banning any operation of wake boats within the exterior boundaries of the Lac du Flambeau Reservation as of April 2024.
